A look at what’s happening in Cleveland State Athletics… 

Men’s Basketball
-The Vikings (19-9, 15-6) will begin Horizon League Tournament play as the No. 1 seed after claiming their second straight regular season title. 
-Cleveland State will open tournament play with a Quarterfinal matchup at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 inside the Wolstein Center.
-Overall this season, the Vikings own a 14-3 record when playing at home. 

Women’s Basketball
-Cleveland State (19-7, 14-6) will begin Horizon League Tournament play on Thursday, March 3 with a Quarterfinal contest at 5:30 p.m. inside the Wolstein Center. 
-Last time out, the Vikings split their games against Milwaukee and Green Bay, clinching the No. 4 seed in the 2022 Keeps Horizon League Basketball Championships.
-Thursday’s game will mark the third straight season that the Vikings are hosting a #HLWBB Tournament game, while it will mark the first time since the 2010-11 season that Cleveland State will host a quarterfinal matchup. 

Wrestling
-The Vikings will head to the MAC Championships this weekend, with action taking place on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5 in Athens, Ohio.
-Earlier this season, Cleveland State was selected to finish second in the Preseason MAC Rankings. 
-Marcus Robinson was ranked No. 30 in the third NCAA Coaches’ Rankings. 

Fencing
-The Vikings started their postseason last weekend at the Central Collegiate Conference Championships, with the men placing second and the women placing third. 
-Cleveland State will look to continue the postseason at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, March 12.
-The men’s sabre, foil and epee teams all placed second overall at the championships. 
-The women’s epee team placed third overall at the event.  

Track & Field
-The Vikings wrapped up their indoor campaign last week at the #HLTF Indoor Championships. 
-Cleveland State will now look towards the outdoor campaign, with the eight-match schedule slated to begin at the Shamrock Invite March 17 – 19.  

Lacrosse
-Cleveland State will continue its three-game roadswing on Sunday, March 6, traveling to Canisius for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
-Last time out, the Vikings fell at No. 17 Michigan, 13-5.
-During the fourth quarter the Viking defense held Michigan’s top-ranked scoring offense scoreless. 
-Gannon Matthews and Gavin Held both recorded two goals on the game, with Matthews leading the team with seven goals on the year. 

Softball
-The Vikings (4-9) will continue the 2022 campaign at the Campbell Invitational this weekend, facing Iona, Akron and Campbell Friday, March 4 – Sunday, March 6.
-Entering the weekend Melissa Holzopfel has a team-best 18 hits, while Courtney Fernette and Becky Hurosky both have 10.
-Melissa Holzopfel has made nine appearances in the circle for the Vikings, while Jenna Watts has made seven appearances and Torrie Jenkins has made six appearances. 

Men’s Tennis
-The Vikings (3-7) will close out their current home stand on Thursday, March 3, hosting Toledo at 10:00 a.m. and Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m.
-Last time out, the Vikings picked up three victories over Duquesne, Buffalo and Lawrence Tech.
-Mikael Erler and JuandeDios Abboud both went 3-0 in singles play on the week, with Erler improving to a team-best 6-4 this spring.  

Women’s Tennis
-Cleveland State (6-6) will return to the road to begin the month of March, traveling to Butler on Friday, March 4 and Ball State on Saturday, March 5. 
-Last time out, Oihane Vicario went 2-0 at the top of the singles lineup, picking up wins against Buffalo and Bowling Green. 
-The No. 2 doubles team of Selma Tounsi and Bethany Yauch also went 2-0 on the week, and now stands at 8-3 overall this spring. 

Men’s Golf
-The Vikings will continue the spring campaign at the Orlando Invitational this week, with 36 holes on Monday, February 28 and 18 holes on Tuesday, March 1.
-Cleveland State will be one of 12 teams competing this week, including one of eight Horizon League teams. 
-This will be the second of five events for the Vikings this spring.

Viking of the Week Nominees
Men’s Fencing
Finished as the Runner-Up at the Central Collegiate Conference Championships, with the sabre, foil and epee teams all finishing second in their respective events. 

Amele Ngwafang, Women’s Basketball
Averaged a double-double through three games on the week, averaging 13.3 points and 12.3 rebounds. Posted 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win at Detroit Mercy, and recorded 16 points and a season-high 17 rebounds against Green Bay, helping the Vikings clinch the No. 4 seed for the #HLWBB Tournament. 

Mikael Erler, Men’s Tennis
Went 3-0 in singles play on the week, picking up one win at No. 1 singles and two wins at No. 3 singles. Also went 2-1 in doubles, helping the Vikings pick up three straight wins.
